THE HISTORY OF KYX If you ever have had the joy of being a part in the creation of music, you know the indescribable feeling that you get when the rythym becomes your "pulse". That "feeling" is what has driven a group of friends to rock and roll for the past 25 years. A common thread of friendship, music, and creativity has given us the reward of being a part of something special. And after 25 years......... IT HAS NEVER FELT BETTER. Like all bands that survive for 25 years, KYX has lived through personell changes, college, work, mariages, raising of our beloved families and much, much more. KYX is FAMILY..... and we plan on keeping it that way forever. Let's step back in time to June, 1978. Five guys from the Moshannon Valley High School, which is located in central Pa., decided to start a band. Brothers Glenn Walstrom (bass guitar) and Jim Walstrom (lead guitar), Chris Sherkel (drums), Greg Bacher (rythym guitar) and Scott Charney (vocals) formed "FANTASY". That was the beginning of the present day KYX lineup. Our first "public" gig was on the tennis courts at the Houtzdale Rec Field in August of 1978. After about 30 minutes of playing tunes from Peter Frampton, The Steve Miller Band and the Doobie Brothers, it began to rain. Nobody in the crowd knew it then, but we were happy for the rain because we were in the middle of the last song we knew... In September of 1978, the band added Terry Wills and his magical keyboard playing. This expanded the limits of the band and before we knew it, we were into doing many of our favorite tunes of the late '70s including Styx, The Cars and Jethro Tull. In June of 1979, we added the electrifing voice of Kevin Miles. Kevin's high lead vocals enabled the band to cover such groups as Journey, Loverboy and Jefferson Starship. Scott Charney departed in 1980 and shortly after that point we officialy changed our name to KYX. In early 1980, we were graced by the superb musianship of former Travesty member, Nick Cimino. Nick added cutting edge lead guitar work along with helping Terry on additional keyboard parts. At this stage of our history we were sounding very tight, taking on difficult songs and playing nearly every weekend. We all have great memories of crazy party crowds at "The Tailender", "Carl's Crossroads" and "Your Place" just to name a few. We continued playing steady until a mutitude of life's responsibilities lead us to take a break in the fall of 1982. Over the next 5 years the band would play only a few times a year for special events. In 1987, we added Bill Moyer, the former lead vocalist from Travesty. Bill's excellent voice opened the door to cover The Eagles, Bob Segar, Bryan Adams and Lynyrd Skynyrd to a tee. While enjoying four quality voices in the band, KYX thrived on producing awsome harmonies. From 1987 - 1997, KYX would play for special parties and several New Year's Eve gigs. Most of the band was so busy with our careers and family that it was nearly impossible to get too serious about playing steady. Once again, life's responsibilities put KYX on the shelf from 1998 - 2000. Following that break, KYX began getting together in the winter to practice and just enjoy some laughs. Nick Cimino was unable to return so we added Houtzdale guitarist Mike Tomko to the band. Mike played for nearly a year and was replaced by Bill Ferrell in 2001. When Bill added his amazing guitar talent to the band, we knew we had something special. KYX was once again enjoying playing on a regular basis. With Bill's "southern flavor", we began playing a great deal of Southern rock. Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, and Bob Seger has become our specialty. After singing high lead vocals for over 20 years, Kevin Miles departed KYX in the fall of 2002. Once again, KYX has "rolled with the changes" and is playing with the current lineup of Glenn Walstrom (bass guitar / vocals), Jim Walstrom (lead guitar), Chris Sherkel (drums), Terry Wills (keyboards, vocals), Bill Moyer (rythym guitar / vocals) and Bill Ferrell (lead guitar / vocals). Presently, KYX is recording and also very much enjoying doing live shows. To our loved ones.. we say "thank you".... to our friends and fans who enjoy our music... we say, "the best is yet to come!"
